Medical Care

While there are qualified care staff on duty at all times, the Guild is not registered for nursing care.

The Guild's doctor, from a nearby practice, visits regularly for consultations, but residents are expected to attend the surgery if they are able. Staff will assist in obtaining repeat prescriptions, and residents may administer their own medication, or be medicated by staff. Residents may choose other doctors within the practice if they wish.

Those who fall ill but do not need hospital care are looked after in the home, either in their own rooms, or in rooms reserved for this purpose, near to care staff.

While it is the Guild's aim to care for residents all their life, it may occasionally happen that appropriate care cannot be provided. In those circumstances, after discussion with the person concerned and family members and friends, transfer to a nursing home or other suitable accommodation may be advised.
