History
Lady Mary Feilding founded The Working Ladies Guild in 1877 out of concern for the financial and social hardship suffered by single gentlewomen. By encouraging them to develop their individual craft skills she enabled them to retain their independence and be self-supporting.

The Guild's present name dates from 1985, but for over sixty years previously it had been active in providing accommodation for the elderly. Now resources are concentrated on running a residential home in Highgate for both men and women and ensuring that Lady Mary Feilding's ideals of independence and security are continued.
Management of the Guild
The Guild is run by a Managing Committee, whose members are the trustees of the charity. The Guild is also registered at Companies House as a company limited by guarantee.
The Managing Committee is responsible for strategic decision-making at the Guild, while the General Manager is responsible for its day-to-day running. There is also a House Committee, members of which are involved with the wellbeing of residents and the environment of the Guild.
